Pastels again

I'm looking for some advice on pastels, and would love people's opinions!

First of all I have a question about pastels that "brown out". Are they still recognizable as pastels later in life, or do some cases of browning out make them seem like nothing more than a brighter than usual wild-type?

I'm thinking of trying to pick up a female pastel in Feb. or March. Most of the pics online I see are of hatchlings or juveniles, and rarely anything over a year old. If I were to look for a pastel that would have very little browning out as it ages, what should I look for? Pictures of parents? Specific lines? Are there specific breeders well known for producing pastels that experience little of the browning-out?

I've read through that lemon vs graz. thread and it didn't seem to me that there was any kind of consensus on which people preferred and why.

Would it be fair to say that you just have to try your luck, purchase from someone reputable, and hope you get a snake that doesn't brown out?

When shopping for a pastel baby - you want one that has as little orange as possible, the orange turns brown.

I was pretty sure that the poll showed a distinct preference for the lemon line - but you can find excellent examples of any line and very poor examples in any line as well.

Whenever my pastel is on the BP.net table at shows, people often ask if he's a super because he's still such a nice yellow and faded head at 2.5 years old.

I've got a bell line pastel and he has browned out only a little. He was smoking when he was a baby though, he was the first morph I'd ever seen and still my favorite to date.

and this is my male pastel born in 2008 they are unrelated, I am unsure of what line he comes from.

another pastel question: do super pastels brown out?? I don't think I've ever seen a pic of an adult super pastel.

The blond pastel is a darker over all pastel, but too me they seem to lighten up as they get older. Our girl is 3 years old and seems to get a little lighter with every shed. The a lot of patels I've seen brown out along the dorsal stripe mainly. You can always tell a pastel by the eyes, unless it is a Pastel BEL or a Pastel Albino. I personally think the browning out is due to a lot of breeders just breed their pastel male to any normal female. Off spring should stay brighter if the pastel is a good quality pastel and it is bred to a lighter colored normal.

I am waiting for Adam Wysocki to ship my 06 pastel female.

In the pictures she has not browned out very much at all. I would not even call it browning out it is more of a light khaki color

I think 8ball has some very nice pastels that is why I decided to do business with him. If you are looking for a pastel that will keep looking good I would contact him and ask him about his males.
