    Chick eating BP

    Hi folks,
need some advice - I have a BP that I picked up, normal female weighing about 1400 grams who only eats chicks. I can get access to F/T chicks but I think I read somewhere that chicks dont contain much nutrition for a BP and can also harbor salmonella that could affect the BP.

Any advice as to whether to continue with the chicks or change as well as how to change would be much appreciated.

    thanks
    Tony

Chicks? That's odd. Who did you purchase her from? I would definitely try to get her onto rats as soon as possible. Maybe get a couple of f/t chicks and try scenting the rats (just rub it up against the chick). I don't know about the nutritional facts as far as feeding chicks to ball pythons goes but it just seems to make much more sense to feed rodents.

Good luck man! You're gonna need it!

Yep try Scenting. Rub the chick all over the rat and try feeding it. If it doesn't work you can shotgun the rat right after the chick.
Worse case scenario just skin the chick and staple the fluffy yellowness to the rat.
Rat in chicks clothing works every time.

i believe chicks would have enogh protein to meet the snakes needs but being a bird with hollow bones wouldnt have much calcium... so definatly switch to rats .... or gerbles they love those cute lil critters !!.... if the rats dont work

    Nah - No staples.

Seriously though I have heard of people split the chick open and dunk the rats head in there - can't claim that would be my idea of a fun activity mind.

When we've switched over animals, the scenting method works well. put your frozen rats in with the frozen chicks so they can marinate

DO NOT give that snake gerbils - and do not recommend it. Seriously.

    To the OP.

The only real diff is the amount of Ash, I think chicks have less ash than rodents.

Base components are not that much different between chicks, mice and rats.

If the snake is eating chicks that is fine, he-she is not going to be malnourished. There is no rush to get it switched over.
