    Minimum Temps before death

Im at work and my power is out and there is no way i can leave. My wife is home alone and cant figure out the karoseen heaters. Power has been out for several hours and the temps are 70 degrees in my reptile room and slowly dropping. At what temps will ball python start dieing at? Im working on getting someone to go over to my house to get my heaters running.

    Re: Minimum Temps before death

    Hi,

I'm not BP expert, but I figure they'll last a few days.
I know a very irresponsible BP owner whose BP was at 68 sometimes and his response to my complaint was "they'll survive".
Snakes are hardy animals and they should survive for a while.

    Hope this helps man,
    MH

    Re: Minimum Temps before death

I wouldnt worry about it to much. Ive had a few instances where my power went out when it was very cold. Just recently we had half a day of no power with 20degree temps outside, everybody was fine event he babies. A few years ago my breaker tripped over night, my guess was it was just after I went to bed, the whole room was very cold when I discovered it and was probably like that for 12+hours. My one ball, at the time, was ice cold I put him on my belly while I watched tv for a few hours and he picked right up.

Wife just called. The power came back on. Never got below 70 in the basement. I have gas fireplace in my reptile room but it uses an electric switch to turn on. Tomorrow im putting a manual gas controll valve on it.

    Re: Minimum Temps before death

I have never tried, but I would guess that they wouldn't start dying until it got below freezing. I think more than likely, they will just start slowing down and not moving. Probably the biggest killer of Ball Pythons that get that cold is the RI they will most likely get after they have warmed back up.

I think these guys can take short stints (12-24) hours of some pretty cool weather before problems start to occur. With that said, I lost power during the recent New Orleans snow storm, and I started getting nervous when our snake room got to 68 degrees. However, it stayed at that temp, and never got lower, until the power came back on about 12 hours later.

    Hope that helps.

I ordered a generator through home depot. It runs off my gas line in my house and kicks on automaticly.
Here is the one i picked out. Its also the smallest and it will run my fernace, electrical outlets, fridge and deep freeze.
