Flexwatt Heat Tape- what is it?

I have read about Flexwatt heat tape that is sometimes used to heat reptiles. It has to be plugged in, right? I have the weirdest mental image. I have never seen it. Could someone please post pictures of heat tape in their BP enclosures?

I have my girl in a 41 quart, 6" tall bin. Under her warm hide, the temps are perfect, always between 90-94F during the day, and no lower than 85 at night. However, during the day, the rest of her cage is at a constant 68F, which is all wrong! I am kind of new to the whole bin idea (btw, I LOVE it, and so does she. She is so relaxed, and it is so easy to clean!!), so this is one problem I can't solve with a lamp and a CHE. The only thing I can think of is heat tape along the sides.

So, pretty much, it would help me a lot to know what this Flexwat stuff looks like.

Here's a pic of her bin

P.S. This is fairly urgent; she seems to prefer cooler temps. When her warm hide gets above 92, she goes into her water bowl or her cool hide, which are both at 68F!!!! Grr.

This is what heat tape is http://www.reptilebasics.com/Flexwat...p-1-c-297.html

As far as your problem if heating the room in the high 79's is not an option, than the second option would be a second UTH or heat tape with a second thermostat set to achieve 80-84 on the cool side.

Thanks. Heating my room more is not an option (trying to save money, energy... and besides, I like the cold, which doesn't really work out since I like snakes too). I could get another heat pad, but her enclosure floor is pretty big, and I'd like it all to be warm enough for her. So I think I will go with heat tape.

Could someone post pics of heat tape used in their enclosure? I still don't really understand. Is it something like a heat pad in strips to stick on sides of enclosures?

Heat tape is simply a UTH that you wire yourself and that is sold by the foot.

Here's a link to Reptile Basics. They sell flex watt and Rich will even wire it up for you: http://www.reptilebasics.com/Flexwat...p-1-c-297.html

Here's the FAQ page of Rich's to help answer your questions: http://www.reptilebasics.com/Flexwatt-FAQ-sp-4.html

I don't see why not. You can always email Rich and ask him what he thinks; he's a great guy and we're lucky to have him in this business
