For years I have been buying Nolvasan (2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate). Currently, I pay about $10.00 a pint for it at a local feed store.
I'm out, and asked a friend of mine who breeds monitors if he had a bottle I could buy off of him.
He informed me that he was now using Hibiclens (4% Chlorhexidine Gluconate) instead and that he picks it up at the local pharmacy for the same price. His contention is that at 4%, he dilutes it accordingly and claims that subsequently it goes farther.
The only difference other than the concentration appears to be the addition of red coloring.
I also noticed that Hibiclens lists isopropyl alcohol as an inactive ingredient. I have not been able to find a list of inactive ingredients for Nolvasan yet and am wondering if the inclusion of IA is something to be concerned about.
Has anyone else used Hibiclens for disinfecting snake enclosures? I'm hoping it would be a viable alternative as it is easier to get and potentially more economical to use.
