    Wireless Router

Time to go out and buy a router for the now two months old work computer. I really need to be online with it but I can't take away internet from the family computer. Anyone have any recommendations? I need something easy to set up and preferably under $100. Do I really need someone to install it for me as the sales guy said, or was he just trying to get more of my money?
    Thanks for any input

I have a very similar Linksys model. You can get them at Best Buy, Fry's or Circuit City for around $50 give or take. Easy to use and secure.

    Re: Wireless Router

By all means do not get them to install it for you. These "tech" people are scam artists some even charge you to pair a bluetooth headset to a phone 25 bucks at that. Theres nothing technical about connecting 3 ethernet cables, it's extremely easy, ill diagram it for you.

Cable or modem device (where you get your i-net from)

    |_______________ New Router's main or master "in" port

Thats the one not directly close to the others, then you have 4 or 5 that are close to each other on the other side of the back, just connect one cable to each computer's ethernet port and presto your done!

PS: Please send the 50 bucks they were going to charge you for that to the I need more morphs foundation at the link below:

    (JUST KIDDING!)

The router listed above is good and really easy to install.

    Have Fun!

Thank you so much! Will I also need a wireless card for the computer or is the router all I need?

    Re: Wireless Router

unless your pc is enabled you will need a card. i run a lynksis wireless from my laptop w/ card, but make sure you secure it or people will piggyback. then a hacker could use your ip addy and get you in trouble.

I have this exact same model linksys and I love it. It is so simple any one that can read and see in color can do it. The one I bought had the ether net and the other cable (sorry I'm not tech savvy) color coded and it was a breeze to set up! I have satellite internet and all I had to do was run the proper cable to my router and the other one to my computer and BAM done!

I would go with the linksys any day of the week! the particular model that Shawn and I have is really great.

One more stupid question. How do I know if my computer is enabled or not?

    Re: Wireless Router

Many new laptops are wireless ready. The computer should have a program for a wireless signal if it is equipt for that.

I am not computer savy at all but I installed my own wireless router very easily.

I have a Netgear which works great. My office computer doesnt have wireless capacity so I bought a small receiver which plugs into a USB jack.
My laptop, Mac mini and Wii haver their own wireless reciever so it connects with no extra gadgets.
