What would i get?
Hello ,
First of all i hope everyone is having a good christmas
Now im thinking of picking up a new ball python as i only have two normal females at the moment and i am wanting to get a few more adult females together and a few different morphs . Now i was thinking today and decided i wanted to treat myself and i thought a new ball python was in store , now i am wanting to start breeding and soon i will have a nice amount of money to throw down on these beautiful animals and be able to make some of the amazing morphs that are out there but until i have the money that im waiting for i thought id pick something up to get me started and that would be a spider male .
The spider is 500g and hopefully soon enough would be ok for breeding but the added extra on the spider is he is 50%het for albino . Now for me the het part is not a big deal just a nice added extra shall i say but this is my question .. What would i get if i put the spider to these two animal's .. first animal .. albino and 2nd normal female?
I no spiders are dominant so with a normal female id get some spiders and normal's , but would they be possible hets as well? as the spider is 50%het .
With a albino id be guessing id get spiders that are pos het for albino but would the het be 66% or am i way off the mark?
If put to albino i need to keep the females and breed back to try and prove them out that correct?
To be honest the het part is just a bonus for me but id be interested to find out what i would get .
Thanks

Re: What would i get?
spider 50% het albino x normal = 50% chance at spider 25% het and 50% chance at just 25% het albino.. but if you prove out the spider to be het albino then the hets you produce will be 50% instead of 25%
spider 50% het albino x albino.. well that is a little trickier since you don't KNOW if your spider is het. Basically this is a good way to prove out whether your spider was het for albino also or not.
If it was het for albino, then you would get 50% chance at a spider albino and 50% chance at a spider 100% het albino.
If you don't get any albinos in the clutch, there is a decent chance that the spider is just a spider and not het for albino, in which case you have 50% chance at spiders and 50% chance at normals.
hope this helped.

Merry Christmas to everyone! If you were to breed your spider 50% het for albino to a normal you would get spiders, spiders possible het albino, normals, and possible het albinos. If you were to breed your spider 50% het albino to an albino you could possibly get spiders 100% het albinos, albinos, 100% het albinos and the coveted albino spider.
I hope this helps. If I missed something someone please correct me or chime in.

Thanks for the reply that was a huge help
To be honest the het part would just be a bonus for me and if it did not prove out then its not a big deal . I think id get a albino female and give him ago at her just to see if he proved out . If not its no big deal but then again i could be in for a nice suprise if he did
When put to a albino female if he did not prove out would the spiders and normals id get have any het percentage for albino?
Thanks

Thank you for your reply .
So am i right in thinking that if the spider did not prove out when put with a albino female the spiders and normals would still be het for albino as well ?
Thanks

Re: What would i get?
i hope i got those %s right it's still way early in the morning for me(jet lag from travelling too) and my head might be a little off.
darn little sister waking you for presents after only a few hours of restless sleep :/ lol
edit:
looking back at what I wrote I did get things wrong lol..
spider het albino x albino has 1/4 chance at albino, 1/4 spider het albino, 1/4 chance spider albino, 1/4 chance het albino
If the spider doesn't prove out and isn't het for albino, then spider x albino gets 1/2 spider het albino and 1/2 het albino

Re: What would i get?
Mainbutter, I think that you are a little off with your figures of getting 50% spider albinos and 50% het albino from a 100% het albino spider to albino pairing. I don't remember the exact figure off the top of my head without doing the punnet square but I believe that it is a little more difficult to get the spider albino than what you claim.

Yes even if the spider does not prove out to be het when bred to an albino female his offspring will all be 100% het albino because they would get the gene from the mother. Also don't rule him out as not being het for albino from the first clutch as sometimes luck is not on our side and you could strike out a few times and then prove out for you. Then again he could prove out and you could get all albino spiders you just never now since the numbers on the punnet square are not a for sure thing. I know a breeder that struck out on the ivory in 7 clutches last season from a proven ivory producing line.

Re: What would i get?
Thanks for all the replys .
I think i shall get the spider and look into getting a albino female and give him a go to see if i can prove him out , if he dont prove out at least i could have a spider that is het for albino anyway with that paring and go about getting albino spiders that way
Thanks

Re: What would i get?
Make sure to note that breeding your spider 50% het albino to a normal, you will not have any possible hets. They can only be possible hets if one or more parent were atleast heterozygous for the trait.
Later down the road if you prove out the spider het albino you can then call the resulting offspring possible hets (50%)
