I am freeking out: 2nd sudden death

The beginning of dec I lost one of my balls to sudden death, I didnt' keep the body to take to the vet. Yesterday I came back from a 2 days away to find another totally unrelated snake dead. I was going to take her in but she had obviously died sometime close to when I left as she was not in good shape when I got home. SO I am freeking. To make matters worse I don't have my computer (it broke down). Any one have any ideas what I can do to keep any more of my snakes from dying? No temp spikes, little (if any) contact between my first and second deaths. The only thing I can think of is I used the same scale to weigh them on. Feeding live (but I always keep watch so no injuries), neither one had meals in them when they died. I am SO scared right now. Life is treating me very bad and now I have lost my two future stars

    Sorry for your losses...

I would DEFENTLLY take the rest of your collection to a herp vet ASAP. (Not sure how many snakes you keep) Get full work done on them to try and determine what is causing the deaths.

It would help if you would explain what's been in your house recently (reptile wise) and your quarantine measures.

Cleaning procedures and chemicals used even pics would help.

Sorry for your loss. It's never a good feeling to lose an animal.

I'm really sorry about your loss, right before Christmas makes it even worse....Were they kept in the same enclosure? Do you use a feeding bin and if so was it used for both snakes?

Like said earlier, I'd be bringing the rest of your collection into the vet ASAP...so many possiblities. I'd get them checked out and if everything is okay with them, I'd be doing a deep clean of them room they're kept in.

    Best of luck

Re: I am freeking out: 2nd sudden death

How long have you had the balls that died? Have you added any new herps in the last 3 months? Have you changed your rodent supplier or noticed a difference in the rodents you've been getting? Do you know anyone else who has lost snakes in the last 3 months?

Are you sure your feeder mice came from a source that did not use red dye in the food?

Do you have mites or other parasites?

Was there any signs of respiratory disease such as a slimy discharge from their mouths or open/gaping mouth?

Was there noticeable ulcers in the mouth from particulate bedding?
