User Reputation vs. Thanks
I really like the new 'thanks' button....but does anyone think it has been having a direct effect on your user reputation? Is it the same thing in a sense?
I dont know...ever since the intoduction of the 'thanks' I feel the rep. points have dropped. Anyone else agree?

Re: User Reputation vs. Thanks
I've noticed that as well, actually. They're both two different things. I guess some people just have to start deciding if it's more acceptable to 'thank' somebody for what they've posted or add it to their good/bad reputation.

Re: User Reputation vs. Thanks
i have not received a single rep point since the thanks system was added. I've also not been posting nearly as much because my husband has a broken foot and a few other things in my life have been keeping me extremely busy, so that may not mean much.
I personally think there are advantages and disadvantages to both systems, but overall I liked rep points better and I think it is sad that the thanks system seems to mean the other one is now used less. One thing I find highly annoying about the thanks system is that it means a lot more screen space is taken up with mostly meaningless fluff, and I have to scroll a lot more to read the actual posts. Also, a person can get a ton of "thanks" for just posting "nice snake" over and over, so it has a lot less meaning as far as judging the quality of advice you are likely to find in that person's posts.

Not the first time this subject comes up

To me they are 2 different things, while I will give thanks for someone commenting on my pics or someone sharing pictures I would not however give them a rep point for that.
Saying “nice snake” for example is worthy of a thanks but not a rep point but it will still make the person feel good about being thanked.
To me particularly good and helpful posts are worthy of a + rep point.
Those are just to different ways to acknowledge people and their participation.
As for a drop I have not noticed it, people still have the ability to give you a rep point if they think your post is worthy of it.

Re: User Reputation vs. Thanks
I agree that they are two different things, but any reputation I used to be getting has seemed to be replaced with thanks.
I haven't put a ton of reputation in either, because when I see a good post, I tend to thank them when I see a lot of other people thanked them as well and forget about the reputation.
I like both features, but I do think the reputation has been taken away by the thanks.
