    Enclosure ...

Well My hubby is more likely than not Getting me a Dumeril's Boa For Christmas .... yes I have caught the bug and fiercely at that!! plus my son sill wants that corn snake hahaha. I figure my Daughter will be wanting one two one just a few years. So I am planing out enclosures. hears where I am in my research:

    1. I have gathered a few plan ideas.
    2. Door should slide or open DOWN. (given I am not much for using a router mine will be opening down lol)
    3 estimated costs.
4 I realized the 2 bottem enclosures will be large and the top level will be split.
    5. and thought of half a million questions!!

here are a few questions ...
    1. What would be a good length for these big guys? currently both are roughly the same size. 4.5-5 feet for squirmy Avy and just over 5 feet for the dumeril's. Obviously I don't really want to be building this again so I would love to get this pretty good size for these girls.

    2. Heating ... I have looked but I am having a hard time sifting through all these post. How the heck do you heat essentially a wall unit 3 high snake enclosure??
2b.flex tape ... I have read some about it ... I am an electrician so hooking up wires doesn't bother me ... I just can't really find any good info on the stuff ...

oops!! I got to get my son to school more questions to come!! if you could start with these that would be GREAT!! Thanks!!
Ok I am gonna give this a try ...
    0.0.1 Boa (Avy)
2.1 Parakeets (Greenday, Rhapsody in Blue, and Nimbus)
    1.0 Red eared slider (Sal)
0.1 Mutt (Yorkie Jack Russel mix) (Sybil)
    0.1 Rabbit (Baily bunny)
    1.0 Hubby (Micah)
    1.1 Kids (Ethan and Alex)

I should mention that the dumeril's boa is coming with her current "custom" enclosure so I am in no rush to get it done in like a week or whatever .... just want it done before spring

    Re: Enclosure ...

the flextape you are talking about is called FlexWatt. I got mine from RBI http://www.reptilebasics.com/Flexwat...p-1-c-297.html
I have 1 ft of 11" foil taped to the bottom of my BPs tub and it keeps that side nice and warm. doesn't do much for ambient temps though, but that might be because its outside the tub. I might try moving it inside to see if it helps.

Starmom often recommends RHP's when it comes to heating, but I have no experience with them. I am considering tryin one out in the cage I am planning on building.

When I get my boa and it is time to build a cage for her. I will probably build a 4x2.
    Thanks!
