    Question 30"x 12"x 15"...suitable for a ball python

My male royal python is close to needing a bigger enclosure and my local pet store has this on special offer... http://www.amazinganimal.co.uk/perfe...5-p-13909.html

It is short of the recommended min size for an adult royal, so would this tank be too small for an adult ball?

As I'm new to herp keeping I have yet to set up a full sized viv as I have juveniles. Some people tell me to go wooden, some say glass will hold the humidity better, Im a bit confused. Whats the best way to heat a 3ft wooden viv for a ball. I put a small deposit to hold the glass one, as its end of line stock, and a lot cheaper than the glass Exo Terra's, but if you guys say its not suitable i won't get it

    cheers in advance!

I'm confused about what you are asking.. royal python is just another common name for ball python.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_python :

As for if that tank would be too small for an adult ball python, I'd probably go with a 36'' long tank for an adult, but for a less than fully grown BP that tank would be just fine.

I keep my '08 BP in something pretty similar.

let me guess the people at the pet store told you that it would be a good size for an adult python. Total bs, a full grown adult python can reach anywhere from 3-6 feet long. Even three feet 36 inches they would never be able to fully stretch out. I hate pet stores with a passion, anything to make a quick buck. Anyways I say build your own enclosure this way you can have it to your exact specs, and you can build to suit your ball python. If you are not good with tools and wood work there are always plenty of small time wood workers in the area who could build it for probaly about the same price you would have paid for that 30x12x15. Goodluck! and keep us updated on what you decide to do

I'm pretty sure that I've been told by people on this site that these cages are great for fully grown adult bps:

Nothing wrong with a 3 foot long cage from what I've read..

If the snake is a male they generally won't get anywhere near as large as a female ( note: generally lol) A female reaching 6 feet is also pretty dang rare. When you're picking out an enclosure for a ball python (or royal python mainbutter yes they can be used interchangeably lol) you should be looking for an enclosure where the length + width of one side is equal to or greater than the total length of the snake. So say you're snake is 5' long, a 3'X2' tank would be perfect for them!

yes you are right after reading your post I feel like a hypocrit because the tubs in my racks system are 26x15x6 rubbermaid. I guess it all comes down to what you prefer and feel comfortable with.

I was confused because it sounded like he was asking about a cage that is too small for royal pythons being large enough for ball pythons.. when they are the same thing.

Lolz, Yeah I didn't realise I used both phrazes in my question.Over here in uk we use Royal Python as the common name. sorry for the confusion. Thanks for all the posts. I can get a 3 ft wooden viv for the same price as the 30" glass tank, so wouldn't try to make my own i don't think, never any good at making things! Yep the store told me a ball would be fine in a 30" tank, suprise suprise! Can you use CHE in wooden vivs?

    thanks for the advice

    Re: 30"x 12"x 15"...suitable for a ball python

Well the store has agreed to switch my deposit over to a 3ft wooden viv which they have in stock for the same price as the glass one. I know most of you guys n gals use rack systems etc, so can someone advise me to set a 3ft wooden for a BP,I don't want to mess about with heatmats, so have narrowed down to a Ceramic heat emitter (100w???) or a reptile radiator http://www.petzoo.co.uk/product_info...roducts_id=127 this is 75W, would that be enough as a single heat source??

Where would i place the probe in the viv from the pulse stat

    Cheers Scott
