    Zippo!

Here's Zippo He has not darkened up much since hatching. I was wondering when I can expect him to darken up as many have said he would, when I posted him as a hatchling. He is fast becoming my favorite snake. He now eats rat fuzzies! (he would only take mice.. tried a rat today, and it worked!) My goals now are to fatten him up, and possibly breed him this year.. I am holding his mom back to breed him back to. If I have to wait until March, if it takes that long to get him up to size, then so be it. I know that he is on the thin side now. But he took a nice meal today (and a nice dump right after eating, which is why I had to remove him from the tub to clean after eating.)

Him with a half-sibling (same sire, different dam.)

    Him by his lonesome.

    I love his little face!!!

Gorgeous snake! I'd be keeping that one too. Now is it just me and the way I'm looking at it, but in picture number 3 does it look like there is a bump on his lower area? Kinda at the bottom of the photo. Maybe it's just the way his marking are. But either way he's a great looking snake!

Hey Gin! He might hold that light-ish color into adulthood... I've seen them super light before... One of the best things about Spiders imo is that the back ground color can range so much... just hang onto him, get em all fat, and if you like the light phase, hope he will pass in on one day! Like the name too!

I see what you mean. There isn't a lump there. But he does have a "feeding lump" in his stomach, where the rat is, from just recently eating. Snakes that are on the thin side, or ones who have eaten a very large meal, get like that. I want this guy to fatten up, definately.
Thanks Laura! I am glad you like the name; my husband just rolled his eyes when I told him about my name choice.

Good to know. I showed the picture to my boyfriend after posting and he said it just looked like the way the markings are. So I guess I was just too quick in my posting about it. Sorry about that.

    Re: Zippo!

    Jen,

When I look at the darker area on top of his head and contrast that with is body color, I get the feeling that he won't darken as much as a lot of Spiders. Also, since he's already showing a graduated color scale across his body, he might darken consistantly from head to tail which will still look very striking, as his head should remain darker than his body. Great hold back! I'd love to see him crossed with a nice Lesser girl one season.

    Re: Zippo!

Good thoughts Here is a pic of him when he was fresh out of the egg. I know that he has changed since then. I have definately not ever seen a Spider that resembles him. And I don't think that he resembles a Bumblebee either.. he is just like, two snakes in one. Like, smoeone dipped his top-line in lighter yellow paint, and left his sides to be almost the normal coloring of a Spider, but ligher. Ah, who knows! Time will tell if he can pass any of this along. He has three siblings. Two are normals. One was an average reduced Spider that, very unfortunately, escaped its tub (I know.. I was near suicical the day it happened.. I actually cried, for real.) But that's what happens when you have people over with kids, who you leave in the kitchen alone with their parents for One Second while you go outside to check the grill.. when everyone was gone, and things calmed down, I found his tub had been replaced into the rack with the lid crooked.. snake was gone.
