    physical differences? (stupid question alert)

What are the physical differences between a ghost and a pastel?
To me, they look the same (no puns here, please) but i'm by no means an expert and have not looked closly in person

While often ghosts (hypos) are lighter than normals, they're rarely as yellow as pastels tend to be, at least while young. Hypos retain semi-normal coloration, only without melanin, which causes black pigment to develop. Pastels still have melanin, and have true black on them, whereas the dark areas in a hypo aren't true black; they can be close, but they're never a true black, more of a grayish color. Pastels tend to be yellow and black, and ghosts are a pale orangey-tan color with dark gray.

Ahhh, thanks! So they look fairly similar.
I was just wondering because i was trying to tell the difference by really bad photos and i couldn't see any change in the colors, patterns, or anything.
Thanks so much for the clarification!

    No problem at all!

Here are a couple links to Nerd's website; their pages on pastel and hypo. They have some really great pictures for you to compare, and I'm sure you'll see the difference--they have really fantastic examples of both the pastel and the hypo morph. ^_^

One of my Orange Ghost (now belonging to Heather)

My Pastel although he isnt the best or brightest

then there is the Pastel Orange Ghost (which also now belongs to Heather)

Ghost can usually be found with there tell-tale faded head and seemingly opaque skin also when a ghost sheds it has no pattern in the shed

    Check out the Hunter's guide.
    http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=45744

There is a guide for ghosts and pastels which helps ypu identify the specific qualities you are looking for in each morph.

I think this is probably one of the best tools for someone new to all the morphs

I'm a little late with the comparison photo, but here's a picture of my pastel and hypo breeding. While my pastel isn't the brightest example you'll see, you can really see the difference in the blacks between him and the hypo.
