    Re: Ambient Temp Help

Your ambient temps will be the temp of the room.

Ways to bump it up would be to raise the temperature of the room, insulate the tubs, or use a heat lamp on the cold end.

Here's what I do, in addition to about a 75 degree room temperature:

I would suggest raising the room temp. It looks like its your bedroom, where 80 ish is too warm.so you may want to find a place for your snakes where 80 ish isnt a problem .

You could try wraping a comforter or blanket around the outside of the tubs, or as was suggested, hang a 40 watt red bulb over the tubs.

    Re: Ambient Temp Help

You may end up needing to use two UTHs. Seems kinda overkill on a tub that small though.

Maybe someone else can come up with a cheaper solution...

    Re: Ambient Temp Help

    I got an idea...

Well I have a heater in the room as well, but I'm currently living at my girlfriends house, and her parents kind of strict about the electric. I told them to look at their previous bills and whatever the new difference is with the heater plugged in I will pay so I turned that baby up. I've been able to keep it at 75ish now. But I was thinking that maybe if I build a rack, like a CB70 plywood or melamine type deal, I'm sure with the temps of the room up and the tubs being surrounded I thinnk it will help the ambient go up. I mean cuz right now the excess heat that isn't being used goes right into the room, if it's in the rack each level will retain that excess heat and make it slightly warmer or am I completely wrong? I have never used a rack before so I don't know what to expect.

    Re: Ambient Temp Help

Indeed. Enclosing the tubs in a rack will help a lot to hold in temps as it will act as a form of insulation.

You could go with another UTH but you would need another thermostat (or Herpstat II) to control the different temps needed from the two modes of heat.

I have these racks: http://www.reptilebasics.com/Iris-Sw...t-p-16197.html and they work really well. I also have these cages http://www.reptilebasics.com/2x3-Cag...h-p-16286.html heated with these RHP's http://www.reptilebasics.com/Reptile...l-p-16371.html and they work really really well to keep in humidity and bump up the ambient temps to where I need them

    Re: Ambient Temp Help

thats pretty much what I wanna do, but I like those tubs cuz they seems deeper, what size are they? Also, why not just use heat tape? I mean wouldn't you need one of those panels for every snake? Kinda expensive...I mean for one snake deffinately a nice thing, but I plan on having tons of these guys lol. Plus I don't believe that being in the 80's is really that important, there seems to be a lot of information saying otherwise also, so who is really right? I mean in the wild if you think about it, it does get hot there, but there always looking for hiding spots to cool off at. I believe the 90 degree hot spot is important but I think ambient temps aren't as big as people say they are. I think 75ish is fine.
