How long for a female to get prego?

I'm currently breeding a male pastel to a normal female and they've been introduced to each other 3 times and they lock up every time. How many times do they need to lock up before she gets prego? And also I leave my male in with the female for 3 days and then i take him out (unless their still locked). But I reintroduce them like a week or two later, should i do a 3 days in 3 days out then 3 days back in and so forth, or is it ok to introduce them every one or two weeks (im asking because i think i'll burn out the male if i introduce him every 3 days)?

It only needs to take one time at a lock for the female to be gravid.

My lesser and mojo are crazy about locks!! I have put him in with her 3 times over the past 8 weeks. I figure I'll put him in with her again after her next shed (in January) and then again in February-- unless ovulation happens

well if i understand your question your asking how long from actuall breeding to become pregnant ? well if she takes it will happen then and there pretty much .. but they can actually retain sperm and end up impregnating themselves later on down the road ..

and then its anywhere from 30-45 days for most snakes to lay eggs from time of conception ..

Re: How long for a female to get prego?

I started pairing last year, with confirmed locks in November. My first clutch was laid on May 5th, while others who started breeding after me had clutches laid before my first. It all depends on the snake.

Yeah, but like i hear people say 3 days in 3 days out. So that means i'll put them together about twice a week, i think thats a little to much, wouldn't that be overbreeding?

that rule is not set in stone man. if you feel 3 days in and 3 days out may be overbreeding then give your animals a rest.

I did three days in, and four days of rest - which was once a week.

This year I'm doing three days in - every other week, but especially when weather systems are rolling through, as they are more likely to lock then.

Re: How long for a female to get prego?

Sorry to hijack the thread but my question is:

Does this means that with just one lock the female "theorically speaking" should be gravid. That would be retaining the sperm until ovulation and laid fertile eggs.

What I understand about this is that the continous pairing is just to make sure that the female will get the sperm in one of the pairings.

    Thanks!!
