"corn cob holder bird feeders" as water guards?
I picked up two of these tonight, basically spiral wire thingies, and my water bottles fit in them perfect.
Has anyone used them as water bottle guards with any success?
I also picked the demons up some of that hamster food shaped like fruits and what nots... to curb the teeth gnashing.
I tend to think they will let me get comfy and then will simply crawl up and chew through the wire at the top of the bottle...

I used a hardware cloth that I fashioned into a water bottle holder. 1/2" and they didn't chew it even though they could have. :?

Generally the rodents will chew on the corners of the water bottles so those are the only areas you really need to protect. I've found that an empty tuna fish can will fit perfectly over the ends of the 1 quart water bottles (you have to put a 1" hole in the middle of one of them for the sipper tube) or a red bull can with the bottom cut off fits perfectly over the smaller 1 pint water bottles.

have to find a picture of them... but I use plastic bottles from petco that are round shaped... kind of like an egg but longer.
Have been using those in all my breeder setup for a long time now. there is nothing for the teeth to grab on to.

Weigh them and make a graph.
Then it's scientific.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

My rats managed to chew thru the circlet that holds the water bottle onto the wire..
The bottle still works, but I can't suspend it from anything anymore. It's GONE.
They will find a way...

So far so good... they are having a demon seed party on top of it though. There are 3 up there bringing out the moon.
I just never trust the little beasts.
