Zodiac flea powder (for dogs) for mites?

I know PAM in the best....but I can't get any for another two weeks.

Until then, I'm looking at other treatments. I've only ever seen two mites, so its not a bad case (can't see any others). A local reptile shop recommended the flea powder, though they cautioned it can cause dehydration. My snake is not even a year old and had a RI two weeks ago (seems healthy now). Is this stuff too strong?

Others will chime in here, but I wouldn't use anything designed for dog on my BP. Till the PAM comes in, you can try Reptile Relief....they sell it at most chain pet stores like PETCO and PetSmart.

Re: Zodiac flea powder (for dogs) for mites?

I just got off the phone with the vet's office (had to call them about something else). I asked about mites, and they said to catch one, bring it in to identify and then they will go about treatment from there (the receptionist didn't know which kind it was).

I've seen pictures online, and pretty positive it's a case of regular reptile mites. Do I really need a vet to confirm that? I want to start treatment today.

If you can't get PAM, get Black Knight. Don't waste money on anything else or put your animals at risk.

Ask your vet for ivermectin. Thats what is best used to treat mites, you can inject it under the skin and it is highly effective and cost efficient. Make sure you have a correct weight on your snake to get a correct dose because it is very potent, overdosing is easy to do.

Why would it be 2 weeks before you can get Provent-A-Mite? Order it tonight and have it next week.

Personally? I'm not going to use a product made for a mammal on a reptile. I always keep PAM on hand as part of my reptile room products. And I don't feel confident enough about product NOT made for reptiles to advise anyone use it and put their animal's life at risk. It's not worth it.

I agree with Robin place an order tonight and get your PAM next week, if you want to do something in the mean time while waiting for your PAM you can use Reptile-Relief which you can find in pet stores (not as efficient but it will do for now)

That sounds like a waste of time and money in my opinion!

I wouldn't use that flea powder on my dogs, let along my snake!
