    Fighting Male BP's

Ok........in this past month I have notice a growing trend of people "suggesting" that they make their males fight!!!

Now I understand the reasoning for this, but why is it so popular right now.

It seems that every thread about peoples snakes not breeding, that someone throws in "MAKE THE MALES FIGHT!!"

    So my question....

For those of you who produce over 100 babies a season, how many of you "fight" your males?

I'll second Heather. I have never fought males. With that said, I had a few males that did not breed at all last year, but it probably had more to do with age than anything.

I dont combat male non-hots. However, if you get in a smokin WC male that is size there is a small chance you will need to combat him prior to getting a lock out of him. Although I would only do it in a large enclosure with the female in the sidelines waiting.

    Re: Fighting Male BP's

I started seriously breeding ball pythons in 96 and I've never had to combat males ... not even WC animals.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Fighting Male BP's

I've done it like twice and got no results from it -- it's not something that I was altogether comfortable with or will likely do again --

I recognize it as just another breeding technique that some people will use and others won't. I personally would prefer to use plugs, sheds, poop or another males tub to help those that are a little slow at getting started. And if they go they go if not there is always next year.
