It's that time of year! This is my first breeding season with my BP, and she is normally an ok eater so I was at first worried when she began to fast (she hasn't eaten in 3 weeks), but I believe it is due to the breeding season. Not cool. I agree breeding would be really fun, but I can't afford another BP (or even to rent a male) or an incubator or the time.

But fasting is not the only abnormal behavior in her! She refuses to go into her warm hide. When she stayed in her cool hide for an entire day, I thought she just liked the rock-hide more than the box (she's always preferred the box, but...), so I switched them today so she could be under her rock-hide and be warm, but she still chose the cool hide!!! She is cold to the touch. And no, the warm hide is not too warm; it's at around 90 during the day.

This part might have just been my eyes, but when I took her out today, her gold pattern seemed - well - more gold than usual; darker, I guess. But she isn't going into shed, she shed a few weeks ago and she doesn't turn that color when she sheds.

Question: Do ball pythons lay eggs even when they haven't mated, like Beardies? I don't think so, but I'm just wondering.

I just took her out of her cage and she hissed at me!! (Not a scared hiss but a I-want-to-go-back-to-bed grunt) She's like a moody teenager! She did calm down and "wake up" (though I don't know how, she was so cold!) after a few minutes of snuggling....

Is this normal behavior? How long do you think it might last?
