    My First Time Bitten!

Well, a recently new Ball Python owner his/her name is "Morphine" shes about 3 months old and seriously love taking on a Ball Python.

I have kept and bread Iguanas for years, years ago but always wanted to take on a Ball Python and now here I am! By the way Great forum! and you guys are all awesome! thanks for having me!

Last night I fed her and the Mouse(F) feel out of the Hemostat and on the substrate she previously struck it twice I went to go pick it back up with the hemostat and was grabbing it and she struck me and latched on to my index finger knuckle! I lift my hand out of the cage and she came with it, I couldnt shake her off for about 20 seconds!

I shook her ever so gently till she fell back in and I went and polysporined the bite and rinsed it a lot to come back and find she still took the mouse and was eating it as it just laid on the bottom.

What was funny the hemostats fell to the bottom as I was shocked by the bite and she placed her head over top of them for hours sort of giving that look " Come on stick your hand in again" LOL.

I was fine, the bite never hurt I was surprised for as long as she held on to me but more alarming was the shock of getting bitten.

I just wanted to share this story with "ya all" and just hoping everytime I go to handle her she doesn't nip strike and bite now. I think it was more a case of my hand in there waving hemostats trying again to pick up the mouse and she already was in feeding mode.

    Thanks guys you are awesome!

Its usually during feeding thats when my husband gets tagged. Just happened this weekend. mid feeding opened a tub and found the cage was dirty. cleaned the cage while he held the snake (not one of our nicer ones). he yelled from the snake room while i was in the kitchen. Got it right on the index finger knuckle. Just a little blood nothing major. Now he doesn't like her either.

im amazed i have not been bitten by my snake (got him at a year old from someone) and they must have handled him alot, cause ive picked him up in the middle of a shed cycle ( not on purpose, first time snake owner) and he wasnt happy about it, but hes never tried to bite me

I haven't been tagged yet by my BP. My corn from many years ago got me the day I bought her(she was SO TINY then) but other than that, I've never been bitten by a snake, captive or wild. A few close encounters and a few strikes, but nothing that landed.

    Re: My First Time Bitten!

My boyfriend had the same thing happen to him from our RTB. He was feeding a frozen rat and when he was dangling it with the tongs, the tail broke off and dropped the rat. So he was trying to grab the rat with the tongs and he got nailed on the thumb. It swelled up and he pulled two teeth (fangs) out of his finger within a weeks time. Our east african sand boa and our hognose strike alot (neglected by their previous owners) but they never make contact. we are working on taming them down.
