monthly shedding normal for older snake?

    hi guys... first post ,

i have a supposedly 1 year old male ball python

hes about 4.5 feet long and is maybe about as big around as a 20 fl oz soda bottle probly a lil less

i was worried about possible scale rot or something because he had finished shedding like 3-4 weeks ago and his belly was getting pink and his scales were looking really dry, so ive been bathing him and applying a small amount of neosporin on the dry spots....

well sure enough i noticed his skin dulling and the next day his eyes are really hazy so hes definitely in a shed cycle....

is this normal for a snake of his age/size? i thought after a year it would be 2 months or so for a shed?

any help would be appreciated .... it seems as if his environment has been getting rather dry in these winter months, so ive been spraying it down and leaving damp sponges in the tank .... hopefully that will be enough

Re: monthly shedding normal for older snake?

definately older than a year, you probably have at least a 3 year old.

Its hard to really put a determined cycle on a snakes shed, they shed really at random times.

I always suggest that people dont spray their tanks as it can contribute to scale rot, making a moist hide will help you with your humidity issues and allow the snake to access it if it feels it needs to. Also just try and keep your humidiy levels around 55-60 and up it when he is about to go into shed to about 70.

And for the scale rot i would go see a vet so that they can get you something to help.

You:How many snakes do you have?
Me: Oh, just a room full.
    You:Eh, how many?
    Me:A ROOM FULL.
