Prepping for a car ride

So I'm goin down to visit my parents for thanksgiving and am planning on bringin George. Since I have him in a 31qt tub its really easy to bring his enclosure with me so thats no issue. When I usually transport him I put him in a pillowcase and he is fine, but those are only like 10 minute car rides.

This is a 3hr car ride. Is it ok for him to just chill in his pillowcase for that long or is it better to just leave him in his tub (i'd have to empty the water dish). I can put like a handwarmer in there with him to try and keep him warm since my car temp is usually right around 70-75 i think.

I would put him in a pillowcase, and then into a smaller traveling tub and place it on the floorboard of the front seat - on top of a folded towel (heat rises from the floorboard - a lot sometimes - and the towel will insulate that).

Use a digital thermometer with a probe, so you can keep the thermometer reader on the seat next to you to keep an eye on, and the probe inside the carrying tub. If regular heat suffices, you're good to go - if it's too cool, put on a little floor heat, but watch the thermometer that it doesn't get too hot.

How long is your thanksgiving break? Do you really need to bring him home? Three hours isn't that long. I bought my first bp from a reptile show in Chicago in February and he survived the four hour drive back to my place in Michigan. I had heat on blast but he was fine. If your break is only a week or so, I would just leave your snake. No point in stressing your snake just to show him off to your parents.

Might be a peace of mind thing. I would be paranoid the whole time I was gone that the water dish got tipped or the thermostat failed. A three hour car ride is no big deal. I drove from FL to MI with my girl and it went smoothly. You can buy a 100W DC to AC power inverter for your cigarette lighter and use the thermostat and UTH in the car. Mine only cost ~$18.

Get a small cooler,fill a few 20oz bottles with hot water from the tap. Put the bottles in the bottom of the cooler, place a towel in next then put the snake (tied in pillow case). Then put another towel on top. They stay nice and toasty...

You can even use a thermometer probe to keep an eye on the temp. Good luck...

i used a small box with a handwarmer and accurite to keel temps up and also this is no joke , i soaked a femanine napkin and stuck it to the side for humidity, i know sounds wt but it worked and my vet liked it and said she preferred it to a sponge..

I may have use your technique this summer. I will be in Dallas, TX this summer and was wondering how to do the trip from MI to TX. if you can drive to FL, I should be able to make it to TX.
