crested gecko incubating?

What are the various materials I can use to incubate crested geckos?

I know about Hatch-rite and perlite, but no pet stores carry hatch-rite around here, and for some reason the only perlite I can find in the minneapolis area has miracle grow in it, that's surely not good for incubating.

I've heard about vermiculite, but I've never encountered it before. What is it and where can I get it, and would you suggest it?

I'll probably just order some hatch-rite online, but I was just wondering if there are any other substrates that are good for making an incubation box out of a tupperware container.

I use vermiculite. You can get it at any nursery or garden center.

I used just regular Eco-Earth coco bedding at room temp.

Got 2 lovely little cresties out of it!

My first choice is Hatchrite. It is ready to go right out of the bag so you really can't go wrong.

I also use hatchrite. The price is reasonable and you don't have to worry about getting the moisture level right. Its worth the shipping for sure.

I just use moist vermiculite. I like it, its easy to tell how moist I want it. After awhile you can just pinch a little and you can gauge if you need to add any water or not.

well i use perlite and just let them sit in my herp room at 77-80 degrees... haven't lost any eggs yet.

I use vermiculite as well, since I have a huge bag of it and use it for my ball pythons too.

Most common place for vermiculite around here is home depot or lowes. I plan to use it in the next few weeks. Many friends have done it and recommend it. I've never heard of eco-earth for incubation. Sounds like a great idea though!

I tried everything on the market then i found out about calcined clay from Allen Repashy on a different forum. Its used in soil for retaining water. Its crushed clay pots refired at 1200 degrees.
Best hathing medium ive ever tried for my leachies. Its light tan when dry and dark brown when wet so its easy to check the wetness level. And i punch holes in my egg tubs so excess water drains out. Makes it perfect every time.
