Regardless of it being a nile or a ornate they are both mean as hell LOL

The common nile is mean, mean, MEAN!
The ornate acts like a salvator. Actually more like a puppy. It runs over and climbs up me.
No biting, hissing, puffing up or tail whipping.
If it stays this way, that would be great.
I don't handle it unless it is on it's terms. It needs to climb up. Otherwise I just feed it and do cage maintenance.
This way it doesn't see me as a threat.

I see.
Have you keeped any other species of monitors before?
I was planning on getting on ornate but instead I got a Black throat monitor had him for 7 months now got him at 12inches now hes 47 inches and still growing ( hes a male ).
Now after I build him his perminate cage im looking to get a new monitor. Im either gonna stick with the african species and get anoth bt or wt or maybe a nile or a ornate.
Or I will go with a v.salvator or another type of water monitor.
What are your cage plans for them?

Basically half of downstairs will be caging. This way there is plenty of room and I can walk in to do maintenance. The more room they have, the less threatened they feel when you approach them.
