    Help me get a BRB

Hi! I want to get a Rainbow Boa as my next snake. I've been reading up and looking at pictures. I think the Brazilian is the prettiest, so that is what I've decided on. I haven't decided who to purchase it from, however. That is where I would like help.

What should I be looking for, regarding what folks generally accept as a great looking BRB? I want to start with a baby. Should I look for bright oranges? Big crescents? Light colors? I live driving distance to where the Reptile Expo in White Plains (NY) is held. It's happening in about two weeks. Does anyone know if there is a good breeder of BRB that will be in attendance. I was looking for one at the last show, but I only came across someone selling the Columbian ones. I was MORE interested in picking up a ball and king snake, so I didn't search that hard, however.

Would I be better off just mail ordering one? Does anyone know if there any breeders out there that have a newish clutch of SPLENDID looking BRBs?

    Thanks for your help.

When you said it was the 'prettiest', that had me a little worried. Will you be able to take care of it at its full size?

And look for the BRB that YOU like the best. I like high oranges, but larger cresents aren't as important to me.

Eh, I know what you mean about the prettiest comment, but noone I know has ever said to me "I got that snake because it's coyote ugly. YEAH!" I know that it is the largest of the Rainbow Boas, but as an adult, it won't be the largest snake in my collection. Certainly not the heaviest. Personally, I don't think anyone should keep the really large snakes unless they have someone that could be around when handling. I would probably never even feed a burm or retic unless someone else was around, you never know... Fortunately, DH has no fear. My big concern right now is if I will be able to keep cool temperatures. I'm worried about what would happen if we had a heat spell and my AC broke. My apt tends to get warm in summer.

Anyway, I agree about the crescents. I saw that someone was pricing the snakes with larger crescents higher, as though that was a big plus. But I guess it is just personal preference. Snakes aren't like dogs in that a particular breed has standards to meet, but I think eventually they will be judged that way.

What do these look like as adults? I see mostly pics of young'uns. I read on one site that they retain their pattern, another site wrote that the pattern fades and they brown out. Which is it? Does anyone have pictures of an adult they can share?

As I sit here, I'm waiting for this site to load (it takes foorrrevvverrrr), but last I went it had a LOT of pictures of really nice BRB's.

The guy that produced our BRB's was Jeff Clark, and I think they are very handsome.
