    Ok OR NOT???

Hi there everybody.... I would like your opinion(more of understanding and knowledge actually)
Is it ok to feed snakes with Rats that has got Lice on them?? I know a whole lot of you will say no BUT i need the FACT here...

From my limited knowledge, i got the understanding(thru a Friend) that parasites are specis specific so feeding these rats with Lice to snakes will not cause any harm so it is OK
Let me know what you think

    Get ur opinions in please....

    Thanx in advance....

It's true, the lice are species specific.

    Re: Ok OR NOT???

Don't lice still drain blood from the rats or feed from them or something? I would imagine it is not as healthy as possible for the snake to be fed a rat that is not healthy. It might not be direct problems from the lice, but a problem from the rat that had health problems from the lice.

I'm no expert but I think I might have heard something about that before. Maybe it was another parasite though...

    Re: Ok OR NOT???

I would have no problem feeding rats that had lice. I would try to get rid of the lice for the health of the rats, if they were my rats, but I'd feed them lice and all. Just my opinion......

I would NEVER!!!* disgusted* I know that lice arn't like mites but thats beside the point. Would you want to eat something with lice on it?!?! I think not. Treat your animals like you would your own children. For goodness sake man take the best care of your animals that you possibly can!

    Re: Ok OR NOT???

I wouldn't personally give my snakes rats with lice.
But I agree with you that it shouldn't in any way effect the snake, theoretically.
They'd probably do it in the wild.

If I knew the animal had ANY parasites it wouldn't come anywhere near me and I wouldn't bring it into my house. Doesn't matter what parasite.

    Re: Ok OR NOT???

I would not feed a snake a rat with lice.

Look, I breed my own rats because I want my snakes to have the healthiest food possible so why would I feed them something that has a parasite? Where did you get these rats with lice? I'd take them right back to the place you got them from and demand your money back. Or if you breed them yourself you really need to think twice about how you are treating your animals. They may be "just rats" but they're an extremely intelligent animal and they deserve to have a comfortable life even if they will be snake food eventually.
