Hard Water..

I was cleaning out Desmo's water dish tonight and started to think..(uhoh)!

We have really hard water (no softener system installed)and it leaves rings around the top of the dish when water has dissipated; so, I was wondering if any of you use bottled water for your watering dishes?

I was thinking the high amounts of minerals would not be good for them....

Why not just find yourself some distilled water?

Uhhh...that is NOT how you get distilled water. Plus I hope no one leaves water just sitting out for a week in an open container then consumes it.

As for the original posters question. I don't think the hard water is going to be detrimental to the snake.
If concerned about it though, it would be much cheaper in the long run to buy a water filter. R.O. would be best but can be expensive (I use R.O.), a cheaper route would be buying a two stage canister filter and put in a 5 micron filter in the 1st chamber then a 1 micron filter in the 2nd.

I personally go to my local store and buy a few gallons of Purified drinking water for my snakes. It costs 85 cents a jug so its not that bad. yeah no mineral water that doean't sound good for them.

i use hard water... every month or so i just soak the dishes in vinegar overnight and pop them in the dishwasher and they look good as new.

I think Ill buy some distilled water..
Its cost effective and still provides the best option for the cleanest water!

A filtration system will be far into the future...(unemployment sucks!) and I rent my house so Id have to check with the landlord before installing!

Does anyone use PUR filtration?? How are the results? Satisfied?

PUR and similar products are simply activated carbon... so the only thing affected is taste. if you get a carbon product, there is no difference between a cheap one an a nice brand name one generally.
if you really want filtered water, go with an RO filter (reverse osmosis)... it filters so extensively that your ice cubes will be crystal clear.

I use a filtrated water.

Reverse osmosis is the best but I understand there is a tremendous amount of water wasted in the process which makes it not very effecient.

the RO filters i used to sell (under sink type) were just a set of three filters and the water then goes into a storage tank... no water was wasted. i'm sure there are other methods where that is the case though...
