    Enough is Enough....Or is it?

Is a 55 gallon tank big enough for an adult Blood python?? I have heard some say yes and some say no...for those of you who have an adult blood python and keep it in a glass tank what size tank do you use?

I would say no....Bloods need a lot of floorspace and depending on genetics, some can get really big. Tanks are too narrow. Plus keeping your conditions correct in a tank will be a huge challenge. I understand some people like to be able to see their animals, but bloods are not comfortable being that exposed and will probably just hide under the substrate anyway.

Is there a reason you prefer to go with a tank?

Actually I keep mine in a sterlite tub. So I was just wondering what others did when they got big...

So what kind of enclosure do you use for an adult blood if its not a tank?

I use boaphile cages...If I had to do it over again I would go with animal plastics, but they were the old hinge style back then and I didn't like the way they looked.

A 4x2 cage should be sufficient. There are lots on the market to chose from. They aren't that much pricier than tanks and they last forever with normal use.

If you want to go the cheap route, this is the time of year that places start carrying the big plastic christmas tree boxes, poke some holes in it, heat it, and you've got a cage. Animal Plastics even makes a rack that fits them.

It's a big ol deep rubbermaid style tub. They measure approx 2 x 4 feet.

We have animal plastic T-10's for our bloods, those are 2 x 4 feet. They are however a bit tall for a lazy slug of a blood, and I know some people don't like how tall they are, but I cannot remember for the life of me who makes the 12" high ones.

The christmas tree boxes are normally with all of the chritmas stuff at Walmart. You can order them from reptiletubs.com too but shipping would be an issue because they are so big.

Reptile basics makes a 12" 4x2 cage. I didn't mean to imply I didn't like the boaphiles....They have worked great for my bloods, I just like the sliding glass doors that AP offers because plexi gets scuffed and scratched so easily. But I do wish AP came in 12" height....When you are short on space, every inch counts!
