    Feeding 2 Large Mice

The other night was feeding night for my female, she's growing pretty quickly, only had her for 4 months. I have always fed her jumbo/large mice. When I first got her and would feed her it would leave a bump, now it's not nearly as noticeable. I have been feeding her every 5 days 1 large mouse. The other night I decided to try and go for 2 mice. I thawed out 2, put the 1 in front of her hide and she took it. 3 minutes later, and the snake was past the neck and was down, I decided to try and see if she would take a 2nd one and she did.

Was this too much? It's noticeable now that she ate 2 mice. Thing is, I ordered 40 mice, and I don't want them to go to waste.

I'm also going to look at switching to rats soon but is it hard to switch to rats?

    Thanks

    Mike

    Re: Feeding 2 Large Mice

I am going to assume you got your snake four months ago as a baby. Having said that, it would be ideal for you to go up to rats that are larger. I realize you have 40 mice so there are a couple of suggestions I could make. First, you could continue to feed the two larger mice until they are gone. I have never had any regurgitation or interruptions in feeding schedules. Seccond, you could always get another snake to eat the 40 mice .

Now, concerning switching to rats. I have never had a problem doing this. My snakes will eat anything. However, I have heard that this is not always the case. The best thing you could do is try. If it does not work you will have to get some information on how to make the transition with a reluctant eater. As I previously stated, I do not have any experience with a snake that will not take the plunge.

It's fine to feed multiples though I would put her on an every 7 day schedule to prevent any reluctant feeding responses

As for switching to rats: Some snakes take the switch while others do so after much patience on the part of the keeper, while some others never make the switch! Why do you want to switch her? These snakes can live forever on multiples of mice...

I was just looking at switching because I was looking at breeding her in the future so I was trying bulk her up. Is it possible to do so on multiples of mice?

    Thanks

    You betcha!!
There are members on this forum who have only and ever fed mice and their snakes put on weight and are breeding just fine!!
Remember: AGE + weight = successful breeding
