lab breeding boxes
How many of you guys use these. I have three rodent racks but I'm thinking about buying maybe ten of these just to increase production. How many rats do you keep in them, and are they easier to clean then those concrete mixing tubs?

I am new to breeding also, I looked at a few and they looked small so I didnt buy any. I feel that the rats need atleast a little more space!

Re: lab breeding boxes
Building a rack with concrete tubs is way cheaper than a lab tank. The right size lab tank usually costs somewhere in the $50 ball park, plus you have to be able to put the tank somewhere on like a shelving unit, which costs more money.

Speaking of cement tubs I think I might pick up a few for a new rack

Yeah they are small but I found a guy selling 10 of them for only 12.00 a piece and they are the medium sized ones.To me they look like they would be easier to clean.

Depends... I guess I don't know which lab tanks your talking about, but the ones I know "to me" sound like a pain in the butt and too small for any rat besides a nursing mother.

Re: lab breeding boxes
I use the large lab boxes for my mice. I keep up to 1.4 mice per tub and they do really well and seem to enjoy all the space. I think they are too small for rats though, just one or 2 mediums may be OK, but I can't imagine a large breeder male and his girls being comfortable in there.
Great price on the boxes though. I tried to get a few more for the mice, but he didn't want to ship.

Re: lab breeding boxes
What are you talking about water bottles? How many African soft furs do you think i can keep in there to where they are a group and never get separated,in the medium sized ones?
