    Slipped disk -shakes head-

So my dad is approaching his fifties, was in a nasty head on collision two years ago that did some pretty rough damage, and needs to get out and ask least do some brisk walking.

So what does he go and do...?

Helps load over 120 75-90 something boxes of shingles.
    And what happens...?

    He slips a disk. -.-'

Now he's hobbling around like a guy in his nineties, grunting and groaning whenever he moves wrong (I know the pain, I was in the head-on and messed up my own back x-X) and he refuses to see a doctor.
-knowing my dad, he's also going back to work within the next three days like a stubborn idiot, this isn't even the first time he's slipped a friggin' disk-

So...does anyone have any magical pain-relieving home remedies there willing to share? His back muscles, are quite literally, like rocks right now. I'm going to use my stubborn daughter-ness to convince him to at least try a heat pack for a little while. I don't think it's going to do much good, but it should hopefully soothe the pain out a little.

Mind you, he absolutely, will not, see a doctor. He gets horrid toothaches every once and a while as well. You have to drag him to a doc no matter the pain. Oi.
Someone keeps trying to access my accounts. Who are you? Just e-mail me, as that's clearly how you're finding me. Quit messing around.

heat and cold rotated is the only thing i would suggest. that and dragging his butt to the doctor. i hope everything turns out okay. but whatever you do DON NOT let him go to work like this he could cause irreparable damage to his back. best wishes. -Josh

get him to the doctor no matter what.

A family friend had a slipped disc, and required surgery. If she had put it off, permanent damage would have been sustained. Tell him that if he doesn't see a doctor, it's quite possible he'll be permanently wheelchair bound within the next 24 months.

Slipped discs are not something to ignore.
