artificial smoke?

this may seem like an odd question, but has anyone ever heard of artificial smoke makers causing problems for their snakes? my roommate just got one today, followed be him and my other roommates filling the house with smoke. i closed my room off as well as i can just in case, but anyone who has used these things knows that the smoke gets everywhere! supposed to be harmless, just wanted to see what everyone thinks.

We use these for training in the fire dept, to "black out" rooms. Not sure if its harmful to your snake but it has a definite odor to it. Try and track down the stuff he puts in it and see whats on the label.

Why on earth would you run one of those? For Halloween

Is it the same thing as a "fogger" people use for dances and Halloween? If it is there is a warning right on the label that says that it can be dangerous to your health. I have athsma induced by smoke and I have a horrible time around the "fake smoke". Personally I don't think it's safe for human health let alone snakes. One of those, best in moderation sort of things. Hopefully your room mate doesn't run it very often....

the one we have is a water/ glycerin solution that, according to the label, is harmless to humans. i'm sure your condition doesn't agree with that, but there are no special precautions on the package.

Well hopefully it won't get used that often and you can put a towel under your door to keep the smoke out. Good luck!

I have one and i plan on using it this halloween, cuz the smoke is heavyer than air just keep your snakes on a higer level than the machine, like snake upstairs in your room and party down stairs with the machine

"Is Fake Fog Safe To Breath?
Most consumer fog machines use fog fluid made of a combination of water and a chemical called glycol, which has been found to be safe in a number of studies and is not considered to be hazardous to humans, and generally used without problems. But, some people do complain of respiratory problems and throat irritation when exposed to theatrical fog.

Rosco International of Stamford, Connecticut, a manufacturer of Glycol based fog machines maintains the fog produced is safe when used properly, meaning not "overfogging" and when using only fluid recommended by the manufacturer.

"We have been advised over the years that this is an extremely safe material to be around," says Eric Tishman, senior product manager.

"When somebody sees a smoke or fog like this, it's a psychological problem," says Jim Kehrer, head of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Texas. "If you see some sort of fog or smoke rolling at you, and you already have a breathing problem, it's going to get worse."

If the fog machine is used indoors you should make sure the room has adequate ventilation. Some people with breathing problems may have problems breathing while in the fog. It is a good idea not to breath the fog for extended periods of time. Consult the manufacturers recommendations."



Considering that snakes are prone to respiratory problems I would do your best to keep that smoke out of your snake room. Better safe than sorry. And keep your apartment/house ventilated!

good info there. the snakes are so far away from where the smoke is going to be used, it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem.
