    Employed by Caterpillar?

Seeing as this is an American forum, I was just wondering if any other of the members are employed by Caterpillar. Just out of interest and to maybe find out how others find Caterpillar, as a company, to work and with the current economic climate, was it having any effect on their production.

I have a friend that is a Dealer Rep for Cat. I could ask him how sales are doing.

Yeah that would be great, thanks. I'm just curious as to how the Cat facilities in North America are coping with current crisis

    Re: Employed by Caterpillar?

My father has worked for Cat for 33 years as an upper middle manager. Mid september they told him they were eliminating his position but that they had another for him to take. The new position would start October 1st but would be a 43% pay-cut. He would loose his bonus but would have a job. He came into the office october 1st and was preeminently laid off. No severance, nothing. He has since gone back to the owners of the company and was able to secure a severance package that was not to terrible.

I know that have been moving a lot of people around and down sizing a good number of employees.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm just concerned as to what effects of all this money madness may have on my job security. According to our superiors the orders are still solid and everything is good but they are obviously going to say that

If you don't mind me asking but how does your brother find it working for Cat. I've been employed by them for near three years now. I personally think they are a great company to work for but I'm just curious as to how fellow employees are finding things with the current economic crisis!
