Re: a little help
that's what I was doing until just recently, I picked up a brick of exo terra forest moss. Basically it's freeze dried and compacted moss, add water to expand it(boiling water to kill off anything), and add to the cage as needed to boost humidity. My cage has been holding a very nice humidity with no spraying whatsoever.

Re: a little help
constant spraying of the cage (especially in the amounts you've been doing) is only going to lead to mold. What's that infamous saying? "Instead of treating the symptoms you should treat the problem" or something like that. By spraying, you're treating the symptoms - no humidity. But you ought to be treating the problem - probably a set-up that needs to be tweaked.
If you are keeping the animal in a glass tank, the screen top needs to be 3/4 of the way covered with plastic or tinfoil, or both. Humidity is water that's trying to evaporate. That means it's going up, and if there's nothing more than a screen top, then that water is getting right out of the tank. You have to stop that evaporation.
In addition to that, you need to provide more water. The depth of the water doesn't matter, but the width does. In other words, you're going to want a very wide bowl but not necessarily a very deep one. Place it half way over the heater and it'll evaporate a little faster. Combine that with a screen that's been covered and you get a lot of water being put into the atmosphere in the tank. That's what you should be striving for.
If you could post some pictures of your tank, tub, set-up, whatever ... it would really help us help you.
Sorry if it seems like I dumbed everything down. I just wanted to explain everything right off the bat, instead of having to do a thousand posts and explain it little bits at a time.
Also, to answer your question, YES - you should chuck the thermometers that you have and get a digital one. They cost about the same if you get them from Wal Mart, and they're MUCH more accurate AND (But wait, there's more!) they usually measure more variables as well.

Did you quarantine the new snake at all? Better not to house snakes together regardless of if you did or not.

That is a huge NO NO. just look at this site and decide for your self if the risk is worth it or if you should just spend the money on another snake???

Re: a little help
First go to Walmart and get digital humidity/thermometer for accurate readings.
Second do not house multiple Ball Pythons together.
You can also pick up some tubs ate Walmart to house them in. They are cheap and much easier to control humidity. There are several links and threads on how to set up tubs or tanks here in the husbandry section.
