    Quarantining and Shows...

So, there's been some discussion lately about IBD and quarantining and such....So I was wondering, what do people who sell at shows do? Their snakes are in the same room as thousands of other snakes who have been exposed to god knows what....what do they do? I hope to have enough babies to sell at the show here in Raleigh (in the next couple of years...), but reading posts here has gotten me so paranoid about various diseases that I don't want to take my snakes anywhere.

I guess that's part of the risk of going to shows.
The rooms are large enough where things don't tend to spread as easily, but if you've ever been to a show, it's not unusual for people to ask you to use a bit of hand sanitizer before you touch their animals.

I hear you. I feel that exact same way. I was actually offered a free table at a show, and turned it down for the exact same reason. I do not want my animals to get mites, or worse. I like to keep them healthy, and I am afraid that taking them to shows could jeopardize that.

Keep them in secure show cages, use a table clothe sprayed down with pam, do not let people touch your animals unless they are buying, and keep a big bottle of hand sanitizer at your table. When you get home put ALL of the animals you took to the show into qt just like new snakes. This is what I would do. Another good thing is, the better organized the show, the healthier it will be. Most shows will even check over your reptiles to make sure that they are healthy.

    Re: Quarantining and Shows...

I recall a thread a little while ago talking about the PAMing on the tablecloth like Matt said, and other preparations for going to a show, but I can't find it, can anyone help me out here?

This to me defeats the purpose of taking animals to the show. If after every show you have to put animals any animals not sold in quarantine for three months, then you would never be able to sell any.

Its just a personal thing that you can do or not do. If you make sure that no one touches your snakes and you use hand sanitizer like its running out id think just checking for mites after would be fine, maybe run a fecal on one just to be sure. Just think, if some person is going around holding every vendors snakes, without washing their hands before going onto another table, and if there is a parasite on one of the snakes, its like a huge spreading fair.
