On-Line Breeder Questions
Okay, so I've been looking around online, just doing some extra research and seeing what kind of Herp trouble I can get into and came across a few breeders, I have seen snakes ranging anywhere from $50-$25,000. My question is, does anybody buy these snakes at the price they are listed? If this is true, I'm quitting my job tomorrow and focusing on breeding.

Re: On-Line Breeder Questions
Yes and No. Yes there are snakes that people pay 1000s for. But not all transactions are money. There are also Trades for animals, goods, and services of what is decided to be equal value between the parties involved. Also an advertised price is not always what the final selling price is. People do "Wheel and Deal" The asking price is just a starting point for some people. There are people who stick firm to their asking price and others who dont. Do the animals sale for high asking prices? Yes, If it is a quality animal and the price is not ridiculous the animal will eventually sell for the price asked. You will find that some people just don't have the patience to wait for that or don't think they can sell their animal for it's true value and undercut themselves and in turn undercut the market because then people start to think they need to sell for the new lower price or buyers think that they should be able to purchase for the new lower price from any seller so the market value of that morph or animal then drops because of it.

Don't do the 'drop everything and breed' thing unless your extremely serious about the business. This type of business is usually only successful when you have true passion and care for the animals. If your into this for money, selling something else will give you a better income.
You may or may not make a good profit on these animals, and it is a lot of hard work. You have to buy an expensive animal to make more expensive animals too.
Also, your husbandry, and all the details, have to be perfected for breeding. So, make sure you know what your doing before you jump in.
It's also extremely difficult unless your a long-time breeder to get animals in the 10k+ range, which involves breeding your own morphs which takes years and knowledge.

I know it, but it still seemed like the attitude of what you wish you could do. I was just giving you the reality of it all.

Yeah I know...I'm still very much a beginner and I believe it would be almost cruel to start breeding with my inexperience. However, one day and a few more snakes later, I do want to consider going into breeding. Right now I'm still in an apartment and I don't think they would take that too lightly.

Just as an example. We have invested well over 10K in our snakes and still have not produced a single egg. With some luck we may have our first some time next year. Even with that I doubt if we produce a single snake with a value over a couple hundred dollars. If we do we will probably hold it back. Our primary hope finacially is to be able to make enough to cover base expenses, not expansion or accidentals.
