I feed my BP every 5 days right now. I don't handle her on feeding day or for 48 hours after she has fed. After feeding my BP goes in her hide and will not come out for 48 hours until I uncover her hide, take her out and handle her a bit while I spot clean her tank. When I put her back she will usually explore the tank for a bit and then settle into one of her hides. I repeat this same process the following two days and she will explore when I put her back each night. Some nights longer than others. I will very rarely in the evening see her outside her hide. Most often I see her poking her head out of her hide an inch or two.
So to answer your question from my experience if I didn't take her out of her hide an handle her she might never leave. That is what they do in the wild and that is what she does in her tank.
