Re: Is it strange that ...
While I don't believe snakes can feel complex emotions of those like humans can, I do believe that they still have explicit individual personalities.
Where one snake may be more reserved and stay balled up, another of the same species may be more apt to explore their surroundings, and perhaps through routine "learn" that the huge godzilla-like creature reaching into the cage provides food, water, and is NOT a threat to their life. I don't think they are simple-minded, I do think that they CAN learn.
Several snakes I've purchased were very shy, and very very fight-or-flight driven. They did NOT tolerate having their heads or tails touched. Given time, and a stable routine, they now let me touch wherever I want (which is nice when checking out the animals during breeding season). On feeding day, all of my snakes sit at the front of their tubs waiting for their dinner, without prescenting the room on my part.
The only way I need my snakes to show me love are by, eating, pooping, shedding/growing, and eventually reproducing. To me THAT is love.
My guess is you got the animal from a hobbyist/breeder who actually handled the animal a bit, and had a great husbandry routine, so the snake associates people with good things, but I'm sure you still have to watch out on feeding day.
