    Cracking your sternum

Any of you crack your sternum? Chris thinks I'm weird and its not supposed to do it, but to me its just like cracking my back.

Sometimes when you need to crack your back it will hurt a bit like pressure is building, but finally you bend or have someone crack it for you and it feels really good.

Well, thats what its like for my sternum. I bend or move and I can feel the pressure until I get it to crack and it feels so great afterwards. Sort of like cracking your knuckles.

So yea? Anyone? Cracking your sternum?

    Re: Cracking your sternum

I don't crack my sternum but I know people who do. For most people, that is not an area that has tension build up. It probably is a combination of your body's muscles and bones being slightly different in how they support weight while you are sitting and standing, how your chest muscles tense up if you are stressed, and possibly some specific manner of how you sit/slouch (that's a huge factor when I need to crack my back)

I'm a pro at self-cracking my back. Sometimes when college was making me super stressed, I would be able to get 10-15 seperate audible cracks. I'm glad I haven't been that stressed in a long time(in fact I haven't cracked my back probably in a month or so!)

I crack my neck, back, knees, shoulders...but sternum?

I'm not too sure about that one, thats sounds weird even to me and I sound like a bag of popcorn in the microwave when I crack my bones.

    Re: Cracking your sternum

I don't do it intentionally most of the time. Usually I go for a big stretch and I feel it popping. You're right though. It feels great afterward.

    Re: Cracking your sternum

Haha, I googled it and apparently most people that talk to their doctors about it say they have no clue what it is, run a bunch of tests and still have no clue why or how people do it.

One person said that their doctor thought they were lying....

    Re: Cracking your sternum

I crack my sternum, as well as my hips! The hips are a post two kids thing, the sternum is something that started in the last few years. Feels great, but people do think it very wierd.
