nice lizard. Did you see the one that they wanted $1000 for. It was huge too. I'm not sure of the species, but definitely a gecko

No, I didn't see that. I wonder what kind it was.

I think it was labeled "Pine Island".

I agree that we should all at least meet and have lunch or something at the next manchester expo. That would be very fun.

    Rhacodactylus Leachianus henkeli pine island.

Or "leachie" for short, although there are several varieties depending on what Island they are from in New Caledonia. They are the same species and can cross-breed, creating new mutts/hybrids. Some people are all for that, while others want to keep them 'pure.'

They are an awesome gecko. The world's largest, btw. I'd love to get one. They are also one of the few lizards to actually vocalize; they bark, whistle, chirp, click and purr, depending on their mood and if you are doing something they like or not.

The price will drop in coming years, as more and more people get interested in having them and breeding them. At $1000 a pop (some are even more expensive) it is mostly breeders who are grabbing them all up.

One of the reasons they are so expensive now is that they take 5 years to reach sexual maturity. Also, they are very picky when choosing a mate. If they don’t like each other, they will fight and possibly kill one another, so introducing them for that ‘first date’ is rather nerve-racking, to say the least!

    This guy isn't fully grown.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

What are you using for substrate? Aspen? I've never seen anyone use wood based before.

It is aspen. I've temporarily switched to paper towels until I can get to the store for some peat moss. I'm not sure if aspen is a problem, but didn't want to take any chances.

Thats probably a safer bet. I was wondering how that would work with the daily misting. Cute gecko btw.
