BEL genetics questions
OK so I had what might be a stupid question regarding BELs. I know that there are multiple ways to produce a BEL, LesserXLesser, LesserXMojo, MojoXMojo, ButterXbutter etc etc.... So my question is this: If you have a BEL that was produced from say a LesserXMojo, since it is technically the super form, if you were to breed that BEL to a normal would you get a mix of lessers and mojaves? I'm just kind of thinking out loud here but any input would be appreciated .

Re: BEL genetics questions
Technically I'm not sure a Lesser X Mojo BEL would be considered a super since it isn't Homozygous. Even so I'm not sure with a Mojo X Lesser BEL you could still produce Normals because the BEL is a combo no a super. If it is a super the Mojo and Lesser are the same gene just different versions of it.

Ahhhh, ok but would a MojoXMojo, LesserXLesser BEL be considered the "super" form and not just a combo? I'm just finally getting a grasp on the basic genetics lol and this was one of the questions that stuck out in my mind

Yes a Mojo X Mojo or Lesser X Lesser BEL is a "Super" since they are the same gene.

Re: BEL genetics questions
as the alleles produce the same morph as a super it is fair to say that they are on the same chromosome and as it takes two copys of the gene to produce the BEL it would be a fair assumption to say that they are variations of the same morph and should produce all morph babies and no normals....

Very interesting how would that work with say the Lesser Pied that is also a BEL ??

Is that considered a Bel? What was the eye color?

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

Re: BEL genetics questions
Earlier a debate was if you bred a Mix BEL to a Normal could you produce a BEL and the answer there was no. Using the same information we can come to the conclusion that no normals should be born either. Either the Alleles are opposite or they are not. The only other possibility would be a normal appearing snake that was HET for BEL if all the Alleles were not being used. With that thought though then you could also produce a true Lesser Mojave coming back from a BEL! Ok I think I just confused myself!

lol ok now I'm totally confused . Still it's fascinating to me. Now I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether this has been done yet ("mix BEL" to normal)???? There is just so much that has to go on genetically that we have no idea about...... IDK lol.
I'd like to find out from the person who sold Matt this BEL which he says is a proven breeder and is lesserXrusso what types of breeding was done in the past and what the results were maybe?:
