I don't know about racial profiling, but they have to have probable cause to search his car. I would refuse and make them get a warrant. Alot of police abuse of power comes from people's lack of knowledge of the law. Consenting to search rarely helps the situation.

Consenting to a search, or saying ANYTHING, NEVER helps the situation. I have to find that video. That is the entire topic of the whole 30 minute video. And in a lot of cases, at least in Chicago, you can try all you want to stop the police from illegally seaching your car, but they never listen. They have never wanted to see my insurance card, they always just run my name and DL, put me against the hood and rip my car apart, before telling me to stay out of the bad areas. I've told them that I hadn't done anything and that I do not give them permission to search anything, nor will I waive any rights, and they tell me to STFU, threaten to take me in an alley and kick the hell out of me, then rip my car apart anyway.
