    Excess herps?

Purely out of curiosity, I was wondering what happens when you breed reptiles that don't sell. Do you hold onto them and hope that they sell, knock the price down, sell to petstores or what?

Ive never really had any trouble selling any reptiles, Just do not expect it to happen over night and you will find someone interested. If not, you do have to lower your price if it is something you need to get rid of faster ( Like a beardie I had once for sale on Craigslist)

When I start getting into breeding snakes more heavily I am going to make sure that I will only breed to a certain number of snakes, that way I dont get overwelmed, and if I were to unsuccessfully sell one, I suppose I would : either offer someone a trade, or keep it.

The main thing is to selectively breed, do not go out and find cheap ugly breeders because they will not make nice babies. And we all know nice babies = faster sale.

With every animal you produce, you should be expecting to keep for a very long time. You could get lucky and sell a bunch of them, but don't breed if you don't have the desire and means to take care of each baby you produce.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

Whenever you breed you should do so being prepared to keep what you produce in the event it does not sell.

    Re: Excess herps?

I think the main thing is dont breed unless you know what and how you are gonna deal with the animals you produce. Just because you produce them doesnt mean you will be able sell them. Reputation, contacts and experience play into it alot.

Think ahead, just because you see a price tag at a show or someones website dosen't mean people you are gonna see that. Nothiing is guaranteed.

And if you do try to sell them way below market prices you are gonna piss off alot of people and that wont help your cause either.

Do your homework first, make sure you have the $, time and the space to care for the animals for a long time(seveal months at least) before you consider starting any breeding projects.

Most people like to buy from people they have heard of and if no one has heard of you it aint gonna be that easy.

    Re: Excess herps?

This is my first season breeding, and I'm only breeding one female. I could have gone out and gotten breedable females for this year but I decided not to. If my second girl gains the weight, I might breed her later on in the season, but for now its just one. I am going to make sure I have enough rack space for all the offspring Akina may give me this year, just in case I can't sell the males.
    Under Construction.....
