How does your BP refuse a meal?

Asking, as tongs are used to simulate live... and any interference can lead to a refusal. Drop the rat in, close the tub, and give the snake privacy to make a hit and consume his meal.

And if you're dragging a live rat around it must be struggling like crazy. No wonder your snake cannot get a good hit in.

Never happened to me yet, but how can you draw a line when your BP won't eat? The last time I feed my BP he keep striking the rat without even biting it for almost an hour. (I am dragging the rat with a thong in front of him) Then when I almost give up, he bites and constrict. I am just wondering how other BP refuse their meal, since I've read that it will happen once in a while. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Fortunately Salzedo lets me know rather quickly. If he is going to eat, then it is a rapid feeding response, solid constriction, and quick swallow. If he is not interested, then he will sniff the offering, turn his head the other way, and act completely uninterested. After that there is nothing I can do to coax him into taking a bite, so I just accept his wishes and wait it out another few days.

IMO all BPs have their own little personalities, so consider my own experience with that in mind.

Yes, they have their own personalities. The longer you have them the better you know them.

BPs don't particularly like audiences.

Some may be shy eaters and only eat alone and undisturbed, while others will eat out in the open in a separate container while being watched. It all depends on the snake and what they are accustomed to. My BP lets me watch, and I can move around, clean her tank, etc. while she's eating with no ill effects. Keep in mind she's off to the side and I try not to cause too much disturbance. I know some BPs are trouble feeders even in the most quiet, undisturbed locations.

mine usually show no interest at all, but some times they come outa there hides rarin to go and then back off right before you would expect a strike, i,ll then try smaller prey just to make sure then wait a week and attempt again most of mine will only eat live so now i breed my own rats and prekill for the ones i can get to eat em
