What can i do about a retained eyecap?

My brothers snake has a retained eyecap (at least it looks like it). I noticed it a couple of days ago but due to hurricane ike my mother brought the snakes over here due to the fact we now have our power back. What can i do in the mean time until my vet is open? I also have no idea how long it has been there.

There's really no need to do anything about it. You run a higher risk of injuring the eye than anything else. The eyecap itself is harmless and will likely slough off with the next shed, if it doesn't get rubbed off sooner by the snake itself.

Re: What can i do about a retained eyecap?

ok thanks for answering my question. i noticed it months ago when i was visiting my mothers house and was holding the snake. i had thought by now it would have come off on its own. my brother is the one saying its not a big deal and to leave it alone. i will be glad when they go home on saturday as the other is a mean one. the bp is a sweet one but the burmese is just mean. once again thanks for the help.

Keep the humidity up in the tank to about 80% constant, that should loosen the caps enough for him to get rid himself if they are bothering him and if not it will ensure a good shed next time.
