Spiders and pastels are dirt cheap compared to most of the stuff out there actually. $350ish for a spider and $125ish for a pastel. Throw in a YB or two, a "box o breeders" deal you see online all the time and bang, you're in like flint for around $1,500 if that. Build your own DIY racks/incubator, breed your own feeders and start breeding away. Yeah, I've been doing alot of research on this very thing myself as I want to start breeding too. I'm also looking hard at the recessive world as so much cool stuff is going on with DH recessives these days.

Anyways, if all that sounds too daunting to you then yes, get a spider male, a pastel female, and a few normal females. That way you can make a bunch of spiders, some pastels and a bee or two if you're lucky all in the first season. Then you're down the road to spinner blasts and super spinner blasts with what you've already got. See, I barely have any snakes and already I'm planning on having like 20 of them in a few years... Well, I can think of much worse things to be addicted to I guess lol.
