Verdi
I was working in the children's section of the bookstore I work at, and found a really cute book.
Verdi by Jannell Cannon.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Ver...2010287/?itm=1
Its about a little Green Tree Python, named Verdi, who doesn't want to become green, lazy, and rude like the adult python's. When he starts seeing green on his scales, he tries everything he can think of to get the green off. This gets him hurt and the adult green tree pythons help him get better. Its really adorable with great pictures!
Just thought I'd let you know about it, especially if you have any young ones around who would like a good story.

Re: Verdi
Books about reptiles (other than cute little crocodiles) are not very common. Most reptiles books are information only, not stories. If I could draw at all, I would write a kids book about ball pythons.

Re: Verdi
Awww that is so cute. Apparently that's the same author who wrote Stellaluna. I wonder if they show the snakes eating at all in that book, or if the author thought that was inappropriate for kids?

Re: Verdi
It does not show them eating. Basically Verdi goes off into the jungle and all he wants to do is have fun. He asks the bigger green tree pythons if they want to climb trees with him and they are pretty much "rude" and tell him to go away. So he comes to the conclusion, he wants to stay yellow forever and never become green like them. One day he starts to become green and he tries everything he can think of to get the green off, including launching himself into the air to get closer to the yellow sun which he thinks will turn him yellow again. He falls back to earth and hurts himself. The green tree pythons take him in and help him heal. He realizes while talking to them that they used to be young like him and did a bunch of stupid things. So finally he turns green and realizes he can still be himself and that its not the color of his scales that determines what kind of personality he has. Its really cute.
