Guy I knew got killed Saturday

Well there are a bunch of bars up the street from my house and it's one of Philly's hot spots cause you can go from bar to bar.

Some guy that was on my high school bball team was out with a few friends on Friday night and was at this one bar called Casper's.

He is about 28 year's old, 6'5 like me, and I never seen him throw a punch in his life. Could be a wise ass at times when we were young but all in fun.

This is what happened. (I was not there)

About 2am and the bar was ready to close. He was there with two of his friends who were brothers.

One brother was getting into it with some dude outside so Jim went out and got in the middle of them.

He was facing his friend trying to tell him it isn't worth it and trying to back him away.

The other guy threw a sucker punch to the back of Jim's head and he dropped to the ground.

He smacked his head so hard on the ground that there was an immediate pool of blood from bleeding out of his eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. My guess is a brain hemorrhage.

I got the word on Saturday that he was in intensive care.

Then at about 5pm I heard that he passed away.

The guy turned himself in when he heard that Jim's father is a high profile detective for the Philly Police.

It's just a shame how crap like this happens.

I always tell my friends that when something is about to happen get out cause the worst could happen.

I also think that all bars need some sort of surveillance cameras outside and inside. Not that this will keep problems from happening but it might limit stuff like this.

Feel for you man I had a bud get killed in a similar fashion a few months back. Little back story: He was a big guy thought he was tough, one night a little gangster walked into or local bar started talking smack. Jason gave the guy a few free shots before continuing to beat the living S out of him and in the end the gangster pulled a knife and slit his throat needless to say the gangster was jumped soon after by about 9 of us which sux because he claimed he was jumped and got off scott free. Oh well man so is life.

Well the story gets worse after talking to this homicide detective I know who works out at my gym.

The camera tapes inside the bar show a kid flipping a table and then going over to a kid to confront him. The the outside tapes show my buddy trying to break up a fight and then 3 guys who look like they are all jacked up on roids beating him down on the ground and then they start kicking him over about 30-40 times.

The 3 guys are not from my neighborhood however when the detective I know named them I went to high school with all 3 of them and used to hang with them here and there during high school.

I see them out once in a blue moon and yes not only in high school were they doing steroids but I know they were still doing them at this point just by their appearance.

I told the guy that I knew Jim since 6th grade and never seen him throw one punch in his life and he said that is what everyone is stating. He wasn't that type of person.

He said the tapes are still being reviewed but from the looks of the bar cameras that caught the outside action from across the street all three guys will be charged with murder.

It's just ashame due to the fact that I knew all four people involved.

Also it's really bad because Jimmy was an only child in his family and I can't even imagine how the parents feel.

Sorry to hear about for buddy. Senseless violence like this pisses me off. In junior high I had a friend who got killed by some punks. He was an awesome skateboarder and had gone into Cicero to skate at a church and a bank we liked to skate at and he got into it with some gangbangers, so they shot him in the face with a sawed off shotgun. I knew quite a few people who got shot or killed like this. A few years back my friend's 12 and 15 year old cousins were shot in front of the White Hen I used to work at, and the 12 year old died. And I've seen plenty of the steriod and Jagerbomb crowd start crap like in your buddy's situation. Luckily all the people I know who are involved have no problem ending those situations before they escalate into mob beatdowns.

Honestly, I was telling my buddy from NJ last night.
Between senseless killings, drug overdoses, and suicides. I have know so many people who've passed in the Philadelphia area.

It's a shame. So many young people.

Thats insane.. He kills someone and he gets a few months? I dont care if it was unintentional and he just threw a punch or two without intent to kill. He willfully cause physical harm to someone without the excuse of self defense. I am enraged by this..
