Thanks, all. And that comment made me laugh aloud, Starmom.
Luckily, the mites aren't that bad. I think they came from another snake in the enclosure (stores and their limited space, you know) that was 'tossed in' without the normal QT procedures these stores usually take. That happens when a newer (young) employee is hassled for time, usually. he's in a QT tub with paper towels that was thoroughly PAMed. 
We'll see if he proves out in a generation or two. He's breeding size now, and I intend to put him in with my big normal, granite-looking female this coming winter.
