I think they're really slick too. But, you asked for opinions.

Another reason I wouldn't wanna use live plants in my snakes cage is just bugs and other nasty stuff that's probably in the soil.

Just sounds like an all around bad idea in my opinion.

True. Bugs are not on my balls guest list. And I realize I asked for opinions. Which is why I thanked you for them. I just wanted to hear more opinions that lined up with my own opinions. =D

Re: Carnivorous plants in with my ball

I would say no, venus fly traps require quite a bit of "pure" water (distilled, reverse osmosis, rain water), hight humidity and high light so the humidity and frequent waterings may cause problems with your snake, i.e. scale rot. The lighting could potentially also be a problem, Ball pythons being primarily nocturnal and having the light level required for the fly traps to grow could cause problems.

Why not look for a plant that is native to ball pythons home range or some type of succulent that would be more suited for them? To me with fly traps being from North and South Carolina in a enclosure with an animal from Africa seems a little weird to me. Best of luck to whichever you choose to do.

I dont think you have to worry about the fly trap " catching " your snakes tail. Those arent very powerful, I've seen big flies able to get ouf of them lol. I think a python would be a bit stronger

Go ahead and give it a try, you know you want to anyway... Make sure to post pics when your snake squashes your fly trap flat.

Yea... that snake will crush them. Is the secretion from the venus fly trap harmful?

If that snake is going to be rubbing and climbing all over them (which he will, there is no way to stop them or deny it), will he will come into contact with the flowers "juice". It sounds like a bad idea, and an injury waiting to happen if the secretions from the flower are acidic or destructive to organic material.

Re: Carnivorous plants in with my ball

i think planting a venus fly trap in your bp's enclosure would be more destructive to the plant than the snake. i really dont see it being any concern to the snakes health even when he does crush it. and he will crush it so its kinda pointless actually...
